If only I had the talent of a french poet, I would have written an «Ôde au Macaron», this wonderful little cookie that exists in dozens of colors and flavors... (sigh) Fortunately for everyone, I’m nothing of a poet. But it doesn’t mean I don’t admire these little french pastries!
Years ago, different pastry chefs started to develop macaroons business in Montreal. But the best ones are certainly at the corner of Mont-Royal Avenue and De La Roche Street.
A macaroon shop. A dessert bar.
A couple of french pastry chefs, Johan and Gaëlle Crop, opened La Maison du Macaron in 2008. True ambassadors of top quality macaroons in Montreal, they quickly met with success and opened next door, in 2011, a trendy and luxurious Dessert Bar.
You may not be familiar with the concept of a Dessert Bar, yet it’s really simple: the pastries are prepared only at the customer request. Like if you are in a cocktail bar actually... but you have desserts instead of cocktails! So do no expect to be served a dessert of the day before: in the kitchen, everybody’s waiting for you to choose one of the fifteen desserts!
Luxuous. Precise. Delicious.
Luxury is definitely one of the principal characteristics of the Maison du Macaron. Whether you are in the pastry shop or in the tearoom, purity and simplicity of the design highlight perfectly macaroons and other pastries. Thus, that’s no surprise to find also that luxurious touch in the plates.
Like edible works of art, the desserts are visually impressive and above all... delicious! The way the pastry chefs play with flavors is pure genius and it highlights the top quality of the ingredients.
